Alawa broke through for his initial win in the Maiden Plate over 1400 metres at Gundagai this afternoon. After consistent runs at his last three starts, Alawa bounced in front and Brendan Ward allowed him to travel comfortably before kicking clear on the turn and he held on to win narrowly.

Alawa is raced by Hancox Bloodstock and a number of individual owners and has now had the win, three seconds and a third from his twelve starts. By Mutawaajid out of Al Ward, Alawa has taken time to learn how to win and hopefully will now go on to provide his owners with more exciting times.
