Athonis continues good form

Nov 20, 2017

Athonis has led throughout to win at Canberra continuing the hot form of JJR just prior to the halfway point of the season.

The former kiwi took his Australian record to four starts for two wins and two minor placings.

Ridden aggressively from wide out he eventually found the front under the 2kg claim for Patrick Scorse. They rolled along at even sectionals over the 1400m and once they straightened up Patty pinched a slight buffer on the rest of the field.

He began to feel the pinch late but had a comfortable 1/2L margin on the closing Pahruli with Solo Gypsy ($41) a big gap back in third.

Athonis was the sixth JJR horse to record two wins this season (commence August 1). He joins the likes of Almost Court, Loyal Toast, Damagic, D'Beak and Critical Touch in that category.

JJR currently sit second (21 wins) in the NSW Country Premiership behind Kris Lees are are striking at 18% with winners and 32% with placegetters this season.
