Alfden produces best to score on the refurbished Synthetic Canberra track.

May 26, 2017

Alfden has swooped large on a competitive field at Canberra Acton to take out the feature event of the day further proving that staying distances are his forte.

Rising to 1900m on recent efforts, the son of USA Stallion Lookin' At Lucky has reassured everyone he is far from your average galloper after three runs back suggested otherwise.

Settling back from the draw, the pace was true enough upfront and he appeared to travel well under stable jockey Simon Miller.  As the leaders clapped on the pace passing the 600m simon began revving the big fellow up and he appeared to respond well.

Alfden ( Lucky as we call him) took his time to build momentum but once balanced up sprinted sharply and put the race beyond doubt,  saluting by a comfortable 1.3L over Storm On ($6) with Illyrian ($5.50) a similar margin back in third.

The win big reward for some of the stables loyal clients in Alfie Hitchcock and Dennis Dale (Yes that is how the name came about ) who have stuck by the stable and given him time after he succumbed to a 12 month injury last year.

It was a big day for the club with the resumption of the Canberra Synthetic track which was last occupied in 2013.  The field sizes and the way it raced suggested that it will continue to be a popular preference for trainers looking to avoid the Heavy tracks throughout the Winter months.
