Token Of Love Wins New Admirers With Sydney Success.

Jan 19, 2017

Token Of Love and jockey Rachel Hunt both notched their first metropolitan win in a gallant effort at Canterbury Park on Wednesday.

They teamed up in the Handicap over 1550m on a sweltering hot day where the mercury reached 40 degrees.

Token Of Love was quick out of the barriers, taking up a trailing position behind Fortensky and Secret Web for a couple of hundred metres before rolling forward.

She led into the straight where she was soon joined by short-priced favourite Fortensky.

In what was a thrilling finish the lead chopped and changed several times as the pair battled for home.

Hunt willed Token Of Love to lift and in a final lunge at line, she claimed victory.

“I can’t believe it, I’m a bit shocked to be honest,” an exhausted Hunt declared after the race.

The 27-year-old apprentice has only been riding competitively for two years but has already left her mark.

She was named Sapphire Turf Club’s jockey of the year and is sitting inside the top 15 in the NSW Country Jockeys Premiership.

“I’m so grateful for the all wonderful opportunities I have been given and for the ongoing support from Joseph Jones Racing,” Hunt said.

Co-trainer Paul Jones was wrapped with the performance.

“Rachel did a great job, she didn't panic when things didn't go her way after missing the jump” he said.

Token Of Love, who is owned by Hancox Syndications, has enjoyed a successful preparation finishing 2nd in a class 3 TAB Highway Handicap at Rosehill Gardens at the end of 2016.

She has a career record of four wins and five places from thirteen starts and has earned over $75,000 in prizemoney. ( More than eleven times her purchase price)
