Girls Own Claims Another Adelong Cup

Jan 07, 2017

Girls Own got the stable off to a flying start for 2017 with a convincing victory in the Adelong Cup.

The six-year-old gelding by Flying Spur teamed up with a jockey he knew well for the 1400m race.

He and Carly Frater-Hill had tasted country feature success together in 2015 when they won the Tumut Cup.

Girls Own jumped well and settled in third position in a very fast run race, as the leaders started to tire before the home straight Carly made her move on Girl's Own to pounce on straightening and won with a bit in hand.

It was the second time he won the cup, having been victorious back in 2015.

“It was great to see Girls Own and Carly back in the winner’s circle after both had time off due to injury,” trainer Paul Jones said.

Owners Kevin and Jenny Casey were at Gundagai Racecourse to see the race and accepted the trophy on behalf of all connections.

In his speech, Mr Casey thanked Joseph Jones Racing for their efforts in the training the horse and praised Mrs Frater-Hill for perfect ride.

He also acknowledged another owner who wasn’t able to be there on the day – Dr Lena Attebo.

Dr Attebo part-owns Black Caviar’s first daughter, Oscietra, and was at Flemington to see her debut in which she finished 3rd.

Girls Own’s victory ensured Dr Attebo still started 2017 off as a winning owner.
