Rock On Zariz Lands Highway Success.
Jun 25, 2016
Three year old filly Rock On Zariz has made it back to back wins, this time at Randwick in the TAB Highway Handicap (1200m) for a group of passionate owners who were there to witness the electrifying victory.
The win of Rock On Zariz gave the Barbara Joseph and Paul Jones stable a second Highway Handicap success in a month after Wonderbolt was also able to land one of the valuable contests at Randwick back in May.
“We're so proud of this little three year old filly, I don’t think the three year olds have a good record in these Highways," trainer Paul Jones said,
“We keep raising the bar and she keeps jumping it”.
Settling midfield from barrier nine, Winona Costin had Rock On Zariz running comfortably in her rhythm off what looked a genuine tempo despite being wide.
Costin steered towards the middle of the track on straightening, struggling to find clear running at first, before crossing heels to find room to the outside 250m from home.
She showed a good turn of foot to overpower Charge of Light by a length with the Favourite Star Shaft finishing third a further neck away.
The Homebred Filly has created her own piece of history, being the latest horse to win a race at Headquarters (Randwick ) donning the blue and green silks since Merimbula Bay's success in the Doncaster Handicap for Barb some 28 years ago.
A strong hand of connections made the trek up to share the spoils, coming from far and wide.
“We've got a mixture of happy owners coming from Canberra, Merimbula, Nowra, and West Wyalong ,” Jones said.
The win now takes her record to ten starts for four wins and three minor placings.
