Mookareena has her sights set on the Wagga Carnival after a dazzling show of speed to win the maiden at Wagga yesterday.

The win was the first as a Sire for Shamus Award, the horse who famously won a Cox Plate as a 3YO maiden back in 2013.

Winning her only trial leading in, Mathew Cahill was given the ride and the stable was confident she can deliver off her work leading in. He parked her outside the speed over the 1000m and fought off all challengers to win by a comfortable head on Red Rock Stella ($3.40F) with All About Belle a weakening third.

It rounded out a successful weekend for the stable with Almost Court placing at Rosehill in a G3 on Saturday. D’beak also resumed and was finding the line well over an unsuitable distance, both look on the path for a potential Wagga Cup berth on the first Friday in May.
