Girls Own has given a mediocre Cup field a galloping lesson in the time-honoured Cooma Cup for 2017.

With just four to face the starter, the popular Girls “Larry” Own was freshened up and carried the topweight of 59kg after Pat Scorse’s claim.

He settled in a stalking position third the fence and when the pressure increased at the 600m there was only one horse you would want your money on, old Larry. Patty stoked him up in front of his proud father John as they galloped clear to score by an ever-widening 5.6L on Layo Layo ($4.40) with Uncle Gerry ($1.90) a head away in third.
